The face fills the frame, seen close and a little from below, the eyes turned toward the camera. A light headscarf is wrapped over the hair and knotted beneath the chin, and the eye moves from the eyes down the deeply lined cheeks to the drawn-in mouth. Behind, the ground is thrown out of focus, holding the head forward. The light is even and fairly hard, describing the lines of the face in detail; the rendering is sharp, the tonal range running from the white scarf to the dark clothing and the shadowed background.

Technical Details: Gelatin silver print, mounted with a white border; sharply rendered in the modernist manner. No title, signature or date is recorded on the object; the title is assigned by the project.
