The scene is lit by a single candle set before a small beer keg, its flame the brightest point in the frame. From it the light rises to catch the keg’s end, marked “CS”, the tap below it, and a seated gnome figure perched on top. To the right stand a glass of beer with a head of foam, a small spirit glass and an aquavit bottle. The eye is carried from the flame across the row of vessels, then out to the enlarged shadows thrown on the wall behind. Tonal range is wide and the contrast strong, the lit objects standing clear of a dark ground. The title on the mount, Øl og dram, names the two drinks: beer and a dram of spirits.

Technical Details: Warm-toned gelatin silver print on heavy cream mount, titled and signed on the mount. The verso carries an award note, an Oslo Kamera Klubb exhibition label and pencilled catalogue numbers. A staged candlelit still life. The print was awarded a silver medal in 1927 and a diploma in March 1928, and was later shown at Oslo Kamera Klubb's 25-year retrospective, 19–24 March 1946. Christoffersen was an active member of the club from 1924, serving as treasurer and later deputy chairman.
