In the 1928 photograph "From the Tøyen Garden" Olaf Christoffersen captures an early view of Tøyen Hovedgård, surrounded by trees that lend the scene a nostalgic atmosphere.

The image shows Tøyen Hovedgård in Oslo, viewed through a pictorialist lens. The same trees still stand around the manor, their growth reflecting the passage of time. The photograph provides a glimpse into a period before Tøyen Garden became the Botanical Garden, with a more romantic and soft atmosphere.

Fra Etnedal (From Etnedal) — Olaf Christoffersen, Etnedal, 1934. A high, open landscape looking across rolling forest to snow-topped mountains on the horizon, framed at the right by a lone tree. The sky is broad and clouded.

The eye is carried from the heather in the foreground out across successive folds of forested hill toward a far line of snow-capped mountains, a lake set in the valley below. At the right, a lone windswept tree — likely a birch — anchors the composition, its knotted branches reaching in over the valley. Above, a broad sky of scattered cumulus fills the upper half of the frame. The light is clear and the definition sharp, the tonal range running from the bright clouds down to the dark crown of the tree and the shadowed forest; the whole is crisper than Christoffersen’s softer city work.

Untitled (Together Towards the Horizon) — Olaf Christoffersen, late 1930s. The photograph looks up a grassy slope at two children walking away from the camera under a bank of tall clouds. The low viewpoint sets the small figures against a broad sky.

Two children walk uphill away from the camera across an open grassy slope, seen from behind. The taller, at the right, wears a dark short-sleeved shirt and shorts; the smaller, at the left, a light cap and light clothing, carrying something in one hand. The slope rises from the lower left and falls away at the right, where birch and other trees stand. Above, tall cumulus clouds occupy the upper two-thirds of the frame. Taken from a low viewpoint, the composition sets the small dark figures against the bright sky. Contrast is high, the clouds and the lit grass holding the brightest tones. The two children are Per and Turid, the photographer’s son and daughter.

Untitled (Paths of Childhood) — Olaf Christoffersen, likely on the way up toward Skaugumsåsen in Asker, near Semsvannet, c. 1930. The photograph looks up a grassy track toward a child walking away from the camera, seen from behind. Trees close the right of the frame and a house stands on the slope beyond.

A child in a light hat, white shirt, dark shorts and knee socks walks away from the camera along a grassy cart track, carrying a thin stick in one hand. The twin ruts of the track curve up from the foreground and lead the eye toward a rise, where a timber house with a pitched roof stands among trees at the upper left. Dense scrub and tall grass bank the track at the left, birch and other trees closing the right. The view is taken at the child’s height along the track. Contrast is moderate; sunlight holds the figure and the grass as the brightest tones against the darker mass of foliage. The child is Per, the photographer’s son.

Höstdag (Autumn Day) — Olaf Christoffersen, Hammeren, Maridalen, 1926. A dirt road curves through the foreground of a wooded valley, a post-and-wire fence running along its far side. Cattle lie in the field beyond, with forested slopes closing the distance in autumn haze.

The eye enters on the wheel ruts of a dirt road curving across the foreground and follows them toward a second track climbing into the valley. The fence runs along the road; beyond it, cattle lie in an open field, and a lone bare tree stands at the right. Wooded slopes rise into the distance, their tops fading toward pale in autumn haze. Taken at eye level along the road, the composition draws the near ground sharp and lets the background soften. Contrast is low to moderate, the tonal range compressed toward the pale upper register.

The verso carries two exhibition labels. The earlier records that the print was accepted and hung at Fredriksstad Foto-Klub’s second national exhibition for pictorial photography in 1927; the later is the printed grey label of Oslo Kamera Klubb’s twenty-fifth anniversary cavalcade, 19–24 March 1946. A typed slip on the verso lists the work under a second title, «Höststemning». Olaf Christoffersen was an active member of Oslo Kamera Klubb from 1924, serving as treasurer and later vice-chairman.

Fra Gupu (From Gupu) — Olaf Christoffersen, Vestmarka, outside Oslo. A single figure on skis stands with his back to the camera, poles planted, at the centre of a snow-covered clearing. Snow-laden roofs stand at the left, with forested ridges behind.

Ski tracks enter at the lower edge and lead the eye across the snow to a single figure standing with his back to the camera, poles planted, in a dark jacket, knee breeches and patterned stockings. To the left, a small boarded outbuilding and larger snow-laden roofs sit under a drift, a chimney rising above them; beyond, spruce and a forested ridge run across the frame. Contrast is high — the figure and the forest carry the deepest tones — while the lit snow retains texture in the tracks and drifts of the foreground.

Two figures bend low over the rows at the right of the frame, gathering potatoes from the turned earth. At the left, a man in a hat and light shirt walks behind a two-horse team drawing a wheeled implement, likely a horse-drawn potato lifter. The view is taken from below the slope: broken soil and potato haulm fill the lower half of the frame, and the working figures are set high against a pale upper register. Contrast is moderate; the dark figures and horses hold the deepest tones, while the trees beyond the crest rise pale and low in contrast with distance.

Høstdag (Autumn Day) — Olaf Christoffersen, Semsvannet, Asker, 1930. A wide pastoral view taken from a low rise, a curving farm track leading the eye into the distance. A single seated child anchors the foreground.

The view is taken from a low rise, looking down a curving farm track that leads from the foreground up toward a wooded ridge. The eye follows the track past rows of upright sheaves standing along it, then out to the trees and, beyond them, a pale expanse — likely the water of Semsvannet. In the near corner, at lower left, a child in a round hat sits in the grass, bent over a stick he is whittling with a knife, and holds the foreground while the landscape opens out to the right. The whole image is softly rendered, warm in tone and moderate in contrast, the pale water set behind the darker line of the woods. The seated child is Per Christoffersen, the photographer’s son.

From the Churchyard (Fra Kirkegaarden) — Olaf Christoffersen, 1927. The view is taken from ground level among the vegetation between the graves, looking across them toward the church wall. The cross is the only element given full tonal separation.

The churchyard is seen from ground level, close to the vegetation growing between the graves. The pale stone cross right of centre is the one form separated fully from its ground; from it, the darker headstones and the church wall behind resolve gradually, with a pointed window to the left and an arched portal to the right. Tonal range is compressed toward the dark register, and the surrounding stones retain shape but little internal detail. Granular pigment texture is visible across the whole print surface. The print was accepted for and shown at the Second International Photographic Salon in Stockholm, 19–31 October 1928. It was subsequently hung at Fredriksstad Foto-Klub’s 3rd National Exhibition of Pictorial Photography, 1929.

The Photographer's Perch (working title) — a self-portrait by Olaf Christoffersen, approx. 1920. Christoffersen stands in the fork of a small pine tree, binoculars in hand, overlooking open terrain from an elevated position. The image records the photographer as observer — elevated above the landscape, pausing rather than actively scanning.

A young man — Olaf Christoffersen — stands in the fork of a small, wind-shaped pine. He wears a dark suit and flat cap and holds a pair of binoculars loosely in one hand. The tree rises from exposed bedrock in sparse, open terrain with low vegetation and scattered rock outcrops. The composition is centred on the tree trunk, which anchors the vertical axis; the figure occupies the upper half, silhouetted against a pale, open sky. Tonal range runs from dense darks in the foliage and clothing to a broad pale register in the sky and rock surfaces. The image functions as a self-portrait: the photographer records himself at a point of vantage, elevated above the ground on which the camera stands.
